Why would my doctor request a drug test without asking me about drug use?

<< insomnia has it anything to do with diabetes?  Effects of Marijuana On Diabetes? >>

I just recently got insurance after 5 years or so of not having it. I went to a new doctor with all of my patient history because I wanted him to be my family doctor. I had been having a lot of pain in my joints so we discussed that and the issue I had been having with frequent uti's. He did a full physical and after reviewing my files he tells me he believes I need to be tested for an autoimmune disease such as Lupus or RA. He is going to test for diabetes and send me to a Rumatologist, a urologist, and he wants me to see a psychiatrist because I had recently been diagnosed with ADHD and still am adjusting to meds. What I am wondering though is why he ordered a urine drug test to be done with my other blood test. There was something in my history where I had told my doctore I had used drugs in the past but that was when I was a teenager and I am nearing 30 now! Does the drug test have anything to do with the disease or what was in my patient history?
It says on the form you leave the office with, urine drug screen and is checked!
I wasn't asking for pain medicine just an anti-inflammatory and was blown away with the diagnosis he gave me for all the other stuff.

Are you sure the urine test was a drug test? Or are you assuming?

There are plenty of medical reasons for a urine sample.

If you question anything here after all these tests, question his ethics on the billing to the insurance company or, his questions to you assuring his faith in your answers as to your youth and all the history you have. It sounds like he doesn't trust your answers or, he's just being careful or, ?

Unless you have been having serious medical problems, I understand the issues of "Insurance" but would questions all these tests and referrals. I would seriously question him.

We've had two doctors and one dentist billing insurance companies, I should say "over-billing them" both have had thier licenses suspended, if you went into one doctors office for, say a cold, you would end up with several referrals and all week running for tests all to no avail. The insurance billings would be enormous. There are limits to these "referrals" and, tests I would think.

it's because of your patient history, he wants to make sure your not conning him and wanting more drugs, plus any new prescriptions he may give you could have adverse effect if there are certain drugs in your system.
