I have very high ketones? Help?

I am undaignosed but sick all the time. Diabetes could be possible. The past week I haev had severe chest pains on left side. Palpitations odd heart beat feeling. COMPLETE loss of appetite, cna barely choke down a raspberry, smelly urine, stomach bloatedness and gas. I went to er and they were not helpful. Said I was stressed. My Ketones were very high though. They were at 75 ( I think MG?). ( in mmol/L it was 3.9). This wa staken 2 days ago. My glucose at the time was normal (5.6 normal is 10 and under) howver I have barely eaten since then, today i have had nothing to eat due to lack of appetite. I am very nervous something is wrong and I am going into ketoacidosis or something. I feel ill. What can I do since the ER is saying im juts an anxious person at home to help me control ketones. I have been to so many doctors. I was at the ER twice just this week. They were the ones who saw my high ketones, and didn’t tell me and sent me home. I got a copy of my blood work.

Have you had an amniocentesis? 31 weeks pregnant, and may need one done. What shall I expect?

I’m going to the hospital today for a non stress test, and an ultrasound. I have gestational diabetes, and my glucose numbers have been controlled well on diet alone, so they want to do further testing, and possibly put me on insulin. Also, they said if the ultrasound shows that my fluid levels are elevated enough, they might need to do an amnio. She basically told me to prepare myself for the possibility. I’m aware that they stick a needle through your belly button and into the sac, but that’s about all I know. Will it hurt the baby? Is it very painful? What exactly is the purpose of the test? Anything you know would be greatly appreciated. I’m very nervous here. I’ve also heard that after one is done, you have to stay in the hospital for 24 hours? Is that true? Any advice from someone who’s been through this would be great. I need to calm down about it.
That is supposed to say my glucose numbers have NOT been controlled well on diet alone.
These are all wonderful answers, and I appreciate the information, but none if this relates to gestational diabetes, and excess amniotic fluid levels. They aren’t checking for birth defects…

Stressful 2nd pregnancy turning me into a terrible mother…please help!?

I have a serious problem…I’m 37 weeks pregnant with my second child and have been having HORRIBLE mood swings. Most of the time I am OK, but occasionally it all gets too much and I end up crying hysterically, slamming doors and screaming over tiny little things. I never did this before this pregnancy, not even the first time around. This is an extremely stressful pregnancy; I’ve been diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes which I’m having a really tough time controlling and I have to do skin prick tests 4 times a day which make me very anxious and stressed; my mood seems so largely to depend on what my glucose reading is, it’s ridiculous. If it’s too high I feel on edge, panicky and tearful, because I’m so worried that my secondborn will have problems when he’s born as a result of my failure to control the diabetes (could end up having to go into special care baby unit and be put on a drip if his blood sugar is affected by mine…too scary to even think about). I’ve just increased my medication to the maximum possible dose; if this doesn’t work I have nowhere to go but to start taking insulin and I REALLY don’t want this. As it is the skin prick tests hurt and I hate taking medication when there’s a baby inside me who is effectively ‘taking’ it as well.

The trouble is that my daughter gets the brunt of all this. She still seems to love and trust me which is nice in a way but just makes me feel even more guilty in other ways. But I often find myself getting snappish and irritable with her and there have been a few occasions where I have lost my temper, screamed, shouted at and even hit her. Once I even marked her cheek; I tell you what, I nearly turned myself in to social services on the spot for that one. As it happens, I confessed what had happened to my husband and he assured me he thinks I’m a good mum with a lot on my plate. But I don’t feel that way. My daughter’s such a sweet kid as well, when I cry she goes and gets me a tissue and gives me cuddles and tells me she loves me. She doesn’t deserve such an angry, horrible mum. I feel like the worst mother ever, especially that I would let it get so out of hand as to slap her around the face…it’s like a monster takes over and I stop being me when these rages overtake me. I ALWAYS apologise to her, tell her I was wrong to act that way and explain that I lost control and that I still love her, which doesn’t make it OK but hopefully limits damage a bit. This has happened 2 or 3 times this pregnancy now, most recent was today; and I have no idea who I’m meant to talk to about this other than a load of anonymmous strangers on the internet because surely any health professional or whoever would just go ‘bad mother’ and I really don’t want to lose my kid because I love her, so so much. Worst thing is, my mum used to PUNCH me around the head when I was naughty as a kid and I always swore I’d never hit my kids, and now I feel like I’m turning into her. (Except she never apologised for it and it happened all the time, but then maybe she started out like me.)

So, whilst many of you will probably respond with ‘you’re an evil woman’ type of answers, I bet nobody can possibly say anything worse to me than I’ve said to myself. If anyone out there can empathise with what I’m going through or actually offer constructive advice that would be great. Many thanks in advance.

Oh yeah, and I’ve started having violent dreams as well. The last one I had, I was watching my own body being hacked into several pieces. Nice. I’m thinking there’s a definite connection between this and the rages dueing the day. I just want to make it all stop and turn back into MYSELF again.
Thanks everyone for your supportive responses. I was on an antidepressant for a while before I got pregnant and came off when I found out about the pregnancy due to fears it would hurt the baby. But I have just gone and found the pill pack and started taking them again. Hopefully this will stop life being such hell (they worked pretty well before). I had PND with the last pregnancy as well as depression during (no angry outbursts though) so it looks like this is something that’s very far from being resolved. I’m seeing an NLP therapist as well (next appointment on Thursday) so hopefully that will help too. Thanks again.

If my pancreas is only "stressed" and not necessarily damaged by autoimmunity, can it be healed?

I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2003. Over the years, I was unable to control it with orals. This year, I was told that my pancreas is producing little to no insulin at all, a symptom of Type 1, but not due to autoimmunity. The doctor said that too much stress on the pancreas to produce the insulin my body needed to combat high glucose levels "shut my pancreas down". I asked if my pancreas would ever function normally again, since it is not the case that the cells were actually damaged. She said no and that I would more than likely need to take orals AND insulin for the rest of my life. What type of damage actually occurs to the pancreas in this case? My A1C is 13.5. Metformin and Januvia are causing me gastrointestinal discomfort and the insulin seems to me making me gain bulk in the upper part of my body. I went to an herbalist yesterday and he said the insulin throws the body off course. He also said that once the pancreas is fed the nutrients that it needs, it will begin to produce insulin again. Has anyone heard the same?

i'm worried bout my dad..?

my dad is almost 50 and has alot of health issues, especially since hes overweight and was a smoker all his life..he managed to quit for a couple of years but recently came back to it
hes overweight and has high blood pressure n my mom sez hes very stressed at work and stuff
hes a businessman so he is constantly travelling (hes goin to cairo tomorrow for 3 days then to xian for 6 and to dubai for 3..then bak here) and its like that every 2 months or sth
he rarely ever exercises or anything…but he used to go walking wen he was diagnosed with diabetes (it was like 238 or sth) so at like 1 am we’d walk for an hour and he did that for 2 weeks and he got his glucose under control..but after that he stopped
hes always busy and now hes been saying he has chest pains and i told him its cuz hes smoking agen and hes like no its different and im scared its atherosclerosis or sth else related to his heart i dunno
my brother and i try to get him to exercise or at least go walking togethr but he says later or wen im done with this or tomoro….and ends up not doing it
i love my dad and i dont want to lose him, i wanna do sth before its too late
i need help and i noe its always eat healthy/exercise/quit smoking/ etc etc and we manage to get my dad to do all that for a while but then he just goes back despite us practically begging him i dunno wat to do

Gestational diabetic, when do I have to start using insulin?

I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes about a month ago…I have been monitoring my glucose and my doctor said that I don’t need insulin right now, maybe later if I don’t control my glucose. The problem is that it has been very stressing for me because no matter how good I follow the diet (counting each carb I eat), my glucose is still high…in the mornings is always on the 100s and 2 hours after meals varies from 123-160…I would like to know at what point other women with gestational diabetes started using insulin. I don’t know what to do anymore, is so hard to control my glucose…no matter what I do.

Secondary Symptoms of Diabetes?

I am about 60, controlled hypertensive via ACE inhibitor. After a stressful period my blood glucose popped higher than 120, maybe to 150 range. Doctor put me on diet. Last two fasting blood glucose tests were normal, A1C tests were below 6.0

My cousin told me that a skin problem might be a diabetes secondary symptom but I get mixed signals from a dermatologist and my primary care physician.

My fingers and toes get hard skin. The skin on my fingers starts to split/bleed – sometimes spontaneously, often with physical stress like tennis. Neither physician says this is a diabetic side effect. Since my blood sugar is currently under control, I shouldn’t have this kind of problem as a secondary symptom. Nor does stuff I’ve found online seem to exactly match my symptom.

Does anyone out there have any experience with this kind of problem? Am I looking at one or two conditions here? Just trying to sort it all out. Any help would be appreciated.
After a bath, I often use a skin moisturizer, one of the ‘intensive care’ lotions, but I still get splits. Worse in cold weather. Sometimes I use one of the multi-threat antibiotic creams instead. I have a topical prescription ointment. Nothing seems to help, yet my blood sugar has been normal for past two tests. I’m just trying to decide what is going on here.

Can I have hypertension if I control my diabetes?

I’m 29 , female and was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in February and since then taking metformin 500mg twice a day and diet and exercise changes. My weight dropped from 59kg to 52kg now, and my BMi is 23.7. My blood glucose is normal now, below 6.2 pre breakfast.
However, after my visit to doc, my blood pressure up at 140/88. I never had high blood pressure before, but I may have overindulged on some high salt food and snacks some days before the test and am constantly stressed.
Can I have hypertension even if I control my blood glucose? Or does the eating and stressing have something to do with it ? How many times do I have to test them?
Sometimes I get panic attack and afraid to see the doc. Does that contribute to the pressure? If so, how can I manage them?
